My first media and escape was books! I love to read and constantly had my head in a book when I was younger. My first and favorite YA Novel is The Hunger Games trilogy, which is so relevant and important, and every single time I've read it (11) I have found somthing new I didn't notice before. The book that has hit me the hardest though is When Rabbit Howls, an autobiography about Truddi Chase, a woman who had Dissociative Identity Disorder and 91 alters. Genuinely the hardest book i've ever read becuase of the hard-to-digest content. On a lighter note, Calvin and Hobbes will always have a hobbes shaped place in my heart and brings me so much joy and nostalgia.
Now I wholehartedly believe that Avatar the Last Airbender is one of the best written shows ever. The character arcs, resolutions, and heavy topics of death and abuse are handled so well, especially considering its a kids show. Sitcoms are my fav genre as well and Community sits in that top spot, with some of the weirdest plots and interstingly flawed characters. It is just so fun with all of its wackiness and referrences and I have never seen another sitcom like it. Now I also really love anime and my first and favorite will always be Yuri on Ice. On the surface, it might just look like ice skating, but it also tells the beautiful story of self love/confidence and a blooming relationship without predjudice.
I am a HUGE Studio Ghibli fan and love all of Miyazaki's movies and messages, but Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind will always be my favorite. She is such a strong protagonsit who stands up for what she believes and the people she loves, and I hope to one day be as brave as her. Now we know I love funny shows, but I also really love stupid movies like Hot Rod and Nacho Libre, I simply have the humor of a 12 year old boy. Everything Everywhere All at Once is a movie I recently watched that I wish I could inject straight into my veins. It is the epitome of what I want to create with its devastatingly real relationships and expiramental visuals that took my breath away.
